Mickey Boardman, From Intern to Editorial Director at PAPER

Episode 23: Mickey Boardman, Fashion Week Rewired, #MagazineHoarders

On this episode of the Fashion League podcast, host Mikahila Bloomfield catches up with the inimitable Mickey Boardman. Mickey Boardman is the Editorial Director of PAPER magazine where he started as an intern and has been with the publication for nearly 28 years.

They bonded over hoarding magazines, and since he was recognized as the most invited person in New York by The Daily Front Row, we asked him for his insights on how designers can reimagine what they do with fashion shows given the recent press around rewiring the fashion week calendars to coincide with buying seasons.

And speaking of fashion week, resort shows and spring 2021 presentations are underway. Gucci live-streamed 12-hours of their campaign shoot in place of a show and released 133 images of their Resort 2021 collection, with Gucci’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele stating that in this moment of change, fashion is finding a new way to come together and he posed the question “why do we work in fashion?”

Gucci Resort 2021, which designer Alessandro Michele calls “Epilogue”, will be the final Resort collection for the brand.

L’Oreal announced via an Instagram post that they’re shutting down Clarisonic and all Clarisonic skincare devices will be marked down 50%. The post says, “After more than a decade of game-changing innovation and technology, the Clarisonic brand will be shutting down on September 30, 2020”. Then why would I want to buy a $100 brush?

Clarisonic, sold to L'Oreal in 2011, will shutter September 30, 2020.
